Zach Lavine made his season debut in the Chicago Bulls 107-105 win against the Detroit Pistons. In 19 minutes, Lavine finished with 14 points on 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point range, but did not play in the fourth quarter.
The two-time Slam Dunk Contest champion showed flashes of his athletic ability and showed great conditioning. With 39 games left in the season and Lavine’s impending free agency, the Bulls hope to see enough out of the 22-year old to decide on whether to retain him.
As Lavine’s minutes increase and his restriction is removed, the Bulls will likely pull the trigger on a Nikola Mirotic trade and also try to move shooting guard Justin Holiday to secure more touches for Lavine.
