Would You Trade Jayson Tatum For Anthony Davis?

I saw this debate on twitter, and this is a scenario that is realistic and needs to be talked about. My poll literally went 50/50 with over 2200 votes. The Celtics shocked everyone on draft night when they traded down to the 3rd pick to draft Jayson Tatum and receive yet another pick. It’s looking like highway robbery as Tatum has burst onto the scene as a big part of the Celtics early success – averaging 13.8 PPG, 1.4 APG, & 5.4 RPG.

Tatum is a stud, he is the future of elite offensive players in the NBA. But, even if he peaked to 26 PPG, 2 APG, & 7 RPG – I don’t think he will be as elite as Davis, or as valuable. Davis is currently averaging 27.2 PPG, 2.3 APG, 10.6 RPG, and 2.0 BLK.

The Celtics biggest deficiency has been rim protection, especially when matching up with Cleveland. Anthony Davis would solve any rebounding issue immediately, and teams would struggle to finish at the rim outside a LeBron led team. Davis literally dropped 45 & 16 last night against Boston.

There is also the argument for Tatum fitting the system perfectly, his youth, and it’s not a good idea to disrupt chemistry, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” I think that same argument could, and was made when Ainge traded Bradley, and Thomas. It’s working out because the team is just better offensively, faster – better defensively.

A lot of fans are beginning to get attached to Tatum, for good reason. But, just like we seen with Isaiah, Avery, and Crowder – Danny Ainge puts business and what’s best for the team ahead of personal relationships.
