Every college basketball season, we have headliners for a recruiting class, and then a surprise player that rises in the draft ranks. Last year is was Markelle Fultz, this season it has been Trae Young. So, who would be next in the 2018 high school class to shock the world? Here’s the four players I think have the talent:
- Keldon Johnson – Signed with Kentucky
I know this sounds weird, Kentucky commits aren’t usually sleepers. As far as these rankings go, he’s not a “sleeper” – Keldon Johnson is ranked 7th in the country, but he doesn’t get hype even remotely close to Rj Barrett, Zion Williamson, etc. I saw him play live at the Hoop Hall Classic in Springfield, MA a couple weeks ago. First reaction, pure scorer, looks like CJ McCollum by the way he plays:
- Louis King – Signed with Oregon
Louis King was another player I had the pleasure to see live courtside at Hoophall. Nobody during that day took over the game more than Louis King. 32 points and hit a flurry of huge 3’s late in the fourth. he will be paired in the front-court with Bol Bol in Oregon next season – to go along with #34 overall player Will Richardson – who is Keldon Johnson’s teammate. King is a stretch four, can guard 3’s and 4’s while spreading the floor on offense. Like I said, he can score at the rim like a traditional four, but can also step out and hit the 3. He’s currently ranked #21 in the class, which is preposterous. Watch out for Louis King.
- Nassir Little – signed with UNC:
as much as I hate to give UNC any sort of credit, Nassir Little is looking like a nice get for a fringe top ten player in the country. He’s like Isaiah Hicks except he can actually score. Similar playing style to Louis King, but he is more of a slasher than a shooter. Most of Little’s points will come at the rim when he suits up for Roy Williams. Not to mention UNC has PG recruit Coby White coming in, who should compliment Little well in the pick & roll.
