The Washington Wizards(34-24) snapped the Cleveland Cavaliers(34-23) five-game win streak with their 110-103 victory, Thursday night. The Wizards pulled within a half-game of Cavs for the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference standings.
Wizards’ All-star Bradley Beal set team-highs with 19 points and nine assists. Aside from Beal, four other players scored in double figures, which proved critical in overcoming an early 12-point lead by Cleveland.
The Wizards finished with 29 assists as opposed to 11 turnovers despite being without point guard John Wall. The Wizards improved to 8-2 without Wall, averaging 30.2 assists over that span.
“Everybody eats. I’m gonna keep saying it,” Beal said postgame. “That’s the way we need to play.”
LeBron James had a near triple double with 32 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists. LeBron scored the final 14 points for Cleveland, being aggressive and repeatedly driving into the paint.
Cleveland will continue to integrate their new players in the 25 games remaining before the playoffs begin. They’ll look to get back on track tomorrow against the Memphis Grizzlies, tomorrow.
