Why Brad Stevens is the Coach of the Year

The Celtics just gave themselves a huge momentum win over their north rivals in Toronto with a double digit win. Brad Stevens has been the vocal point of the team with Kyrie out and made another case for COY tonight. Stevens saw that the man-to-man defense wasn’t working tonight and switched back to his 2-3 zone that worked Wednesday night in Utah. This held the Raptors to 15 4th quarter points and under 100 points for the whole game, and possible won them the game. He also went against a COY candidate in Dwane Casey who had his team at full health.

This season the Celtics have battled with horrible injuries with many key players. This included Hayward being out for The Who year, Kyrie dealing with a knee injury from time to time and is now out 3-6 weeks, Smart who has dealt with a hand injury who is out indefinitely and other players as well. But one thing that kept this team together and composed all season is their masterful head coach, Brad Stevens. He has the Celtics in the 2 seed in the East despite all of the injuries and they have the best road record in the league. The Celtics have a good record without Kyrie, including a four game winning streak and a really good record without Horford. And let’s not forget he’s been missing his all-star forward Gordon Hayward the whole season.

Brad Stevens has this team as the best defensive efficiency team in the league allowing the second fewest point per game in the league. They’ve already hit the same amount of wins they had last season with all of the injuries he’s dealt with and he has the opportunity to pass 55+ wins, the most he’s ever had in the NBA. Stevens has been known for his great out of bounds plays and his defensive mind set and he’s led the Celtics to a top 4 record in the league, top 2 seed in the East, a 50+ win team dealing with possibly the most injuries out of any team in the league. My point is, the COY belongs to Coach Brad Stevens.
