The Dallas Mavericks have a full blown star in Luka Doncic, and that is why they may be willing to deal their former 9th overall pick Dennis Smith Jr. According to Shams Charania of the Athletic, the Mavs are “open for business”. Charania wrote that the Mavs are potentially using Smith Jr. as a trade chip. While Smith Jr. is a young talent, the Mavs view Doncic as their primary ball handler. While it’s still too early in the season to tell if Smith Jr. and Doncic could be a good fit on the floor together, the Mavs have seen enough from Doncic to trust him as their primary ball handler. Dennis Smith Jr. is currently averaging 13.0 PPG and 4.0 AST this season. Smith Jr. will no doubt gauge trade interest from multiple teams. We will keep you updated as more news develops.
